Welcome to "LocoData", the largest and fastest growing locomotive data website.

A lot has been added and updated. We ended 2005 with over 226,025 locomotives and 2,977 rosters on-line. We started 2005 with 201,276 locomotives, which means we added 24,749 locos during the year. On the average, that's about 68 locos each day. I was hoping for more, but as this website gets larger, considerable time is spent just maintaining what is already here. Hopefully we'll see 2006 end with more than 250,000 locos on-line.

There is actually a lot more than this on LocoData. Some locomotives in the individual rosters haven't been added to the model lists yet, which is where the locomotive count comes from. Some, such as the result of dispositions and mergers, haven't had their own specific rosters created yet. Corrections and additions are always appreciated. If you have missing information or corrections, please contribute them. Please state the title and author if you are using a publication. All submissions are credited (see respective credits). Thanks to all.

A great portion of this would have been impossible to compile without the help of many people. Thanks to the authors, the people who answered a flood of e-mail and provided materials, and the other people that just got caught up in it. Please see "The People" and "The Books".
